Rhonda House Bio
The entertainment bug bit Rhonda House, one of The Village Chicks, early in life and it has never let go! She first appeared on stage with her Uncle Paul’s band in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 9. She dreamt of someday being a Country and Western singer. In the 11th grade during the talent portion of her high school beauty pageant, Rhonda got the attention of the smartest and most popular boy in her class, Dennis House. They started dating during the last two weeks of high school and married in December 1973.
Singing at family get-togethers, karaoke parties and the church was the extent of her singing career until she and Dennis moved to The Villages in February 2018. Rhonda eagerly began singing anywhere she could. During an audition for the Pops Chorus, she met her duet partner, Casandra Barrett. On a whim, they sang a duet together with a live band at Barb’s Barn in Oxford. “How Blue” by Reba McEntire has since become a signature song for The Village Chicks. The audience’s enthusiastic response to their unrehearsed duet motivated them to sing more duets.
Then, at The LaLiPops open rehearsal in 2022, BJ Odendahl visited with Rhonda and Casandra after she noticed they were sitting in the front row singing every word of every song. BJ inquired, “Do you girls sing?“ Rhonda and Casandra answered with a resounding “Yes!” BJ continued to inquire, “What are you girls known as?” Rhonda stammered and sheepishly replied, “Rhonda House and Casandra Barrett?” BJ encouraged us to come up with a name. After Casandra refused to be known as “The TaDa Sisters” we brainstormed and came up with “The Village Chicks”! With Rhonda’s husband, Dennis, developing their signature logo and their daughter, Shelle, creating The Village Chicks website (www.TheVillageChicks.com) the ladies began booking socials, events, and birthday parties and appearing officially as The Village Chicks, including at the Orange Blossom Opry.
