Doug Skinner
I began my musical journey as a teenager, playing bass and singing in a local “garage band” in Milford, Connecticut. After enlisting in the Marine Corps, I continued honing my musical skills by playing in bands wherever I was stationed. While stationed in Memphis, I worked part-time as a studio musician, playing bass in multiple demo recordings at Sun Studio for local songwriters. After leaving the service and taking 30 years off for career and family, I retired to the Villages in 2003 and renewed my musical career. I was an original member of Flashback, a well-known local band in The Villages. I have sung in various musical productions, including “American Bandstand Revisited” and multiple “Starry Nights” shows at both the Savannah Center and The Sharon. As a member of Bobalou’s Oldies but Goodies, I have sung on multiple occasions with Rocky and the Rollers at Katie Belles. In collaboration with Michael Hertz, a fellow Vietnam veteran, I recently recorded and released an album entitled “Midnight in July,” which is comprised of original songs about a soldier’s experiences in Vietnam.

Bobalou’s Oldies but Goodies” will be performing on June 10th for the porch social at O’dell Rec Center. At this point, it is tentative because Stephanie, one of the group members, has back surgery in the middle of March. If everything goes as planned, she will be finished with rehab by May 1st. I did announce it, but I’m not advertising or selling tickets until around the middle of May, just in case they have to cancel. At that point, I would put something else together for the social. I’m attaching a photo of the group for your use.
